In Character Information
Name: Twisted Fate, the Card Master.
Series: League of Legends
Canon Standing: Shortly after Graves joined the League.
Age: Unknown, but likely somewhere in his 30's.
Birthday & Astrology Sign: November 15th, Scorpio
Arcana: The Fool (Reversed)
Personality: Fate's usual mood can be described as a smooth, suave, cocky son of a bitch. Always confident and smug, no matter how much the chips are stacked against him. He greatly enjoys a challenge at pulling off a good scam on someone, and the higher the risk, all the better. Granted, things usually go his way, either by luck or by his own machinations, as he has no compunctions against stacking the deck in his favor. When things don't go his way, though, that can break his composure. For example - when he thought he'd got a fat lot of nothing in an attempt to grant him magical capability, he grew incredibly angry - until an accident showed him that the attempt had actually worked. He's also got a terrible tendency to make a lot of bad life decisions. For one, his attempt to gain control of magic involved screwing over his at-the-time swindling-partner and friend, Graves, by selling him out to the scientist running the experiment that granted him his powers. (Graves had hustled a fair amount of money from the man, who wanted revenge for it - so to get to Graves, he went through Fate.) The power that Fate gained would have been more than enough to bust Graves out of the situation Fate had put the gunslinger in, and would have been the ultimate con. However, for some reason, Fate did nothing. (The actual reason is that Graves' background is something of a retcon/addition, as he was put in the game two years after Fate was, and Fate's own lore never made mention of Graves.) On top of it all, he shows no signs of having any regret over the whole thing. After all, they were both hustlers. Something like this was bound to happen sooner or later, right?
Another case of Fate's questionable life choices was his romance with another Champion - Evelynn, the Widowmaker. If the name's not enough to tip one off that she's dangerous, her demeanor and the way she acts on the field makes it plainly obvious that she's got an unhealthy enjoyment of violence, and is widely known to be a skilled assassin.
In interacting with others, Fate generally is a what can be considered a charming asshole. He likes to think he holds all the cards in any given situation, and if not, well, he's always been a gambling man, and he's got plenty of tricks up his sleeve to get out of trouble. His interactions with people are more often than not just attempts to con them out of things he wants. Money, information, or just amusement. Everything's all about him, and he only makes a token effort to hide it until he reaches his goal. Very rakish.
With friends...well, it's hard to say that Fate actually has friends as much as he has people that he gets along with and know he's likely to sell them out if it suits him. He and Evelynn both enjoyed each other's company to a great deal, but they were both pretty terrible people - she's a sadistic assassin, he's a backstabbing thief. With him and Graves, they presumably got along quite well for the partnership to work as well as it did, likely with a lot of witty banter and scheming as to how they were going to hustle their next target, as well with raucous celebration once they got away.
Backstory: Although born to poor parents, Fate eventually got to prosperity with a little luck and a lot of cheating - namely, by gambling in the less reputable parts of Valoran's cities, Noxus and Demacia in particular. He had quite a bit of natural luck, as he always managed to escape any authorities that came after him. He got to a point where he wasn't ever wanting for money, but instead desiring control over magic. At this point, he'd picked up a partner, Malcom Graves - both were conmen, and had met at a card game when they both flipped a hand of four aces. They joined up after that, and made a hefty haul all over Valoran. Graves hustled a powerful businessman, Dr. Aregor Priggs - and this proved to be the gunman's undoing. Priggs learned of Fate's desire to gain magical power, and offered the card master a deal - turn over Graves, and he'd give Fate a chance at his dream.
Fate promptly backstabbed his partner, and after what seemed like a failed experiment at first, Fate found himself miles away from the facility. He'd teleported, and the experiment had been a success after all. With his newfound abilities, Twisted Fate joined the League of Legends for fame and fortune. From there, things are a bit fuzzy. He dated a fellow champion, Evelynn, for a time, and even hosted dancing classes with her, until she broke the relationship off, which left the Card Master in a rather broken state for a period of time. Eventually Graves broke out of Priggs' facility with a heavy focus on revenge - so these days, Fate finds himself on the run from Graves and various authorities more often than not. For now, his luck has held out.
Canon Powers:
Unnatural Luck (Mind) - Fate was born with terribly good luck to begin with, and the magical power he gained seems to have only served to enhance it. He's yet to have been caught by the various authorities and people he's conned. In the actual game this is shown via his passive, Loaded Dice, where he gets a varying amount of bonus gold for killing enemy units between 1 and 6, but he usually gets higher numbers.
Magical Cards (Physical): Fate has the ability to produce cards that do damage when thrown, as long as he has mana, able to change their type and appearance on a whim. Makes for great card tricks that end with the viewer in pain. Some are just thrown to deal damage, but there are some variants.
Wild Cards (Physical): A trio of cards are thrown in a cone, and can strike multiple targets in a row.
Pick A Card: Fate draws a card that inflicts a bonus effect.
-Blue Card: Deals a great deal of single-target damage and restores mana to Fate (Physical/Mind).
-Red Card: Does moderate damage to and slows all enemies in a small area (Physical/Mind).
-Gold Card: Does minimal damage to a single target and stun them for a short time (Physical/Mind).
Destiny (Mind): Fate reveals the location of all enemies, even those that are stealthed for a short duration.
Gate (Mind): Essentially teleportation with the vague range of 'miles'.
Stacked Deck (Mind) - Every fourth non-enhanced card-throw gets bonus magic damage, shown by a halo of cards at Fate's feet. The damage
